Right to Information Act - 2005

The Department of Culture, Uttar Pradesh, plays a significant role in the development of the state's glorious heritage, traditions, and folk and classical arts through its various units and programs. From fostering interest in art and culture to promoting their growth and development, the department implements various welfare schemes dedicated to the well-being of artists.
Cultural programs are organized periodically across various regions of the state, providing both renowned artists and emerging young talents with ample opportunities to showcase their skills. The department also conducts these cultural events through its subordinate academies and institutions, such as the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi, Bharatendu Natya Akademi, and the Tribal and Folk Art Culture Institute.
To make the scientific methods of teaching music and dance easily accessible to various sections of society, the Bhatkhande Music Institute, which has been granted the status of a Deemed University, offers Bachelor of Music (B. Music) courses. The institute continues to conduct classes in folk dance, folk music, Thumri, Ghazal, and other forms of traditional arts, as it has in the past. Through the department's autonomous institutions, such as the Acharya Narendra Dev International Buddhist Research Institute, Jain Vidya Research Institute, Kathak Institute, and Ayodhya Research Institute, work is being carried out in the study, documentation, research, and publication of ancient legends.
The Uttar Pradesh State Archives in Lucknow, along with its regional units, is responsible for the transfer and proper preservation of obsolete records obtained from various state departments, semi-government bodies, and private entities.
To honor and keep alive the memory of the nation’s leaders, freedom fighters, and philosophical saints, statues are being commissioned and erected. The state provides a monthly pension to elderly and impoverished artists who have dedicated their lives to the worship of art, culture, and literature but are now unable to earn a living due to old age or poor health. Eligible artists must be at least 60 years old and have a total monthly income of no more than 2,000 from all sources. Each qualifying artist receives a pension of 2,000 per month. Additionally, under the Government of India's state quota, a pension of 500 per month is paid as the state's contribution to artists from Uttar Pradesh who have been approved for a pension.
