The Department of Culture, Uttar Pradesh, is implementing plans from time to time to promote and develop the state's art and culture, along with the conservation and enhancement of its various aspects, through the integrated efforts of its various units. The department is not only encouraging the activities of its various units and institutions but also organizing various national-level festivals and events at the culturally significant sites of the state to promote the culture importance of Uttar Pradesh.

The culture History of Uttar Pradesh

In 1957, the 'Department of Indology, Culture, and Scientific Research' was established to promote and coordinate various activities related to culture, scientific research, and fine arts. The newly formed department's scope of work included museums, archaeology, geology and mining, Government Vedic School in Nainital, Government College of Fine Arts and Crafts, scientific research committee, and other institutions such as Raja Library in Rampur; G.N. Jha Research Institute, Allahabad (now Prayagraj); Nagari Pracharini Sabha, Varanasi; U.P. Historical Society; Bhatkhande College of Hindustani Music, and others. In 1959, it was renamed as the Department of Culture Work and Scientific Research. In 1961, the functions related to geology and mining were transferred to the Industry Department. Later, the Vedic School in Nainital was separated from it, and in 1975, the department was named the Department of Culture Affairs, later renamed as the Department of Culture.
