The Uttar Pradesh State Archaeology Department is one of the three directorates operating under the Culture Department of the Uttar Pradesh Government. The other two directorates are the Directorate of Culture and the State Museum Directorate. The Archaeology Directorate oversees and manages all activities of the Uttar Pradesh State Archaeology Department in a systematic manner. Major projects related to archaeological excavations and research are conducted through the Archaeology Directorate. To effectively manage archaeological activities across Uttar Pradesh, regional archaeology units have been established in Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Allahabad, Jhansi, and Agra. These units, under the supervision of the Archaeology Directorate, work diligently with other staff members to achieve the objectives of the Archaeology Department.
